Debt Drives Family of Seven to Suicide

An entire family of seven died by suicide on July 18 in India as a result of a growing debt.
A suicide note was left indicating the severity of their financial problems.
The family owned a bakery in Kolkata, India.
"The family apparently was under a huge loan burden," said police officer Subrata Banerjee.
Two of the family members were children, including a three-month-old baby.
Police believe that the eldest son, Shankar Saha, administered poison to the other six family members and then hanged himself.
The bodies were discovered by a housemaid.

It is always very disturbing to hear about a "suicide pact."
One or more of the members of this family most probably was suffering from depression.
And untreated depression is the number one cause for suicide.
A person suffering from depression cannot think clearly because he or she has a chemical imbalance in his or her brain.
Depression is highly treatable.
