FDA Investigating Asthma Drug Singulair for Possible Suicide Link

The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) is investigating anecdotal reports that the asthma drug Singulair may cause users of the drug to be at an increased risk for suicide. (Singulair is produced by Merck and is the company’s biggest product, with worldwide sales of over $4 billion last year.)
The FDA will evaluate studies and patient reports concerning the medication as part of an investigation that will take as long as nine months.
The FDA is not currently recommending that patients stop taking the drug, but that they consult their doctor if they have concerns, and the FDA is asking doctors to carefully monitor any patients who are on the medication.
The FDA said that the investigation “does not mean that the FDA has concluded there is a causal relationship between the drug product and [suicide].”
If you or someone you know is suicidal, please go to the Home Page of this website for immediate help.
Thank you.
I love you.
Take care,
