Remembering and Honoring the Victims of Pan Am Flight 103
We direct our compassion to the victims and their loved ones; not to
the murderer
By Kevin Caruso
December 21, 1988
Pan Am Flight 103 explodes over Lockerbie, Scotland, killing 270 --
243 passengers, 16 crew, and 11 people on the ground (189 victims were
American).
January 31, 2001
Abdelbaset Ali Mohmed Al Megrahi is convicted on 270 counts of murder
and sentenced to life in prison by a panel of Scottish Judges.
August 20, 2009
The mass murderer, who has terminal prostate cancer, is freed on "compassionate
grounds" by the Scottish Government -- he was in prison for only
8 years. He returns to his home country of Libya and, sickeningly, is
given a hero's welcome.
The decision to release someone responsible for 270 murders is unbelievable,
disgusting, outrageous, and inexcusable, to say the least.
The mass murderer should have died in prison -- The people we should
have compassion for are the victims and their families. May we thus
all remember and honor the 270 people who lost their lives that day,
and may God bless and comfort their loved ones during this painful time.
As we continue to think about the wonderful people we lost that day,
I would like to share with you some pictures of the beautiful Memorial
Garden that was established in a Scottish cemetery to honor them (see
photos below).
And let us keep those who are suicidal because of this tragedy in our
prayers.
With great respect, love, and honor to those we lost,
Kevin Caruso
